The F.B.I on Monday raided the home of former President Donald J. Trump in Palm Beach, Florida, and broke open a safe reportedly to retrieve some classified material that Mr. Trump took from the White House when he left office in January 2021.

Trump announced the unprecedented raid in a statement and the F.B.I. confirmed that it had searched his residence, and the White House said President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had nothing to do with it, and that they learned about the raid on television like everyone else.
